In preparing for Shemini Atzeret, I realized I didn’t have a rain song at the ready that I liked and would be easy for congregational singing. So this came to me today – just waiting for people to layer harmonies and instrumentation on it! The text is Psalm 68:10, which I’m translating as: “May You release bountiful rain, O God; may You revive the land in its weariness.” The verse doesn’t actually say “land.” It says nachalat’kha – “your legacy.” And in context that legacy either could be the land or it could be us. Either way, we are weary and parched and in need of the blessing of rain.
